LSU Athletics Facilities vs. Mother Nature
Early Thursday morning LSU’s campus was subjected to the severe weather that rolled through the area. High winds and heavy rain slammed Baton Rouge as most slept……I watched from the front porch. There was constant lightning and loud thunder, so I knew the bulk of the storm was close, but didn’t consider the fact that damage might be widespread.
As students walked to class Thursday, limbs were down, some trees uprooted and insulation was strewn about near the Energy Coast and Environment Building. Wait, wait…….insulation strewn about?!? As I was looking for a parking spot Thursday morning after zig zagging my way to campus avoiding tree-blocked streets, I noticed the stuff on the ground and wondered where it came from. More after the jump……
Turns out that powerful wind gusts ripped part of the indoor practice facility’s roof off and blew the insulation all the way across Nicholson, down Nicholson Dr. Extension and throughout the adjacent parking lots.

Go To Hell, Ole Miss! …and the Highly Underrated SEC Gametime Weather Forecasts
With the historic comeback win over Troy last Saturday behind us (I hope the 1st half is way behind us), we are now staring at yet another day game, sigh….., but against the only team to beat the Florida Gators this season. On September 20th, Ole Miss marched into The Swamp and after it was over, walked away with a 31-30 victory. It was later that day that a tearful Tim Tebow vowed to the Gator faithful that no team in the country would work harder than his team for the rest of the year. And damn! The Gators have been relentless since.
Ole Miss took advantage of Florida mistakes that day which may scare some Tiger fans due to our insane ability to make mistakes (i.e. Lee’s weekly high passing % to the opposing defense). It might appear that the Rebels have finally let Eli go and have started to take on a new identity with 1st year head coach, Houston Nutt.
But if history has taught us anything, this game should prove to be one fought hard from wire to wire. Ole Miss’s last win over the Tigers came in 2001, 35-24 in Baton Rouge, and in each game since with the exception of a 40-7 win by the Tigers in 2005, it has been close regardless of the final score (i.e. 2007, 41-24). Four of the games in LSU’s 6 game winning streak over the Rebels have been decided by 3 points or less. One of the wins was decided in overtime, 23-20 in 2006. I was there, as a certain Rebel tuba player might remember, and it is still in the top 3 for the highest my pulse rate has ever been.

Les Miles, the Long Term, and the Highly Underrated SEC Gametime Weather Forecasts
When Les Miles made the choice to relieve Ryan Perrilloux of all his privileges at LSU, he knew what he’d be left to work with at quarterback for the 2008-2009 season. Three guys who had combined for ONE….only ONE completion for the Tigers. A sophomore transfer, a red-shirt freshman, and a true freshman. The choice to kick Perrilloux off the team in May 2008 may have kept Miles up for a night or two, but in the end, was a no-brainer. Perrilloux’s off the field bull-shit had become a liability for the future image of LSU football.
Les Miles was left with a choice. A simple one really….. Short-term or long-term. Miles could have given Perrilloux one more chance and he might have turned his life around helping the Tigers to great season, only to then be arrested under the influence and with possession of more than just a pregnant hooker the night before a national championship or other BCS bowl game. This is the type of scenario Miles chose to avoid by letting Perrilloux go. Miles chose to keep the LSU football program clean no matter what amount of talent we would have to part with.
Believe it or not, there are LSU fans out there that look back now and wish we had kept Perrilloux, after all the quarterback trouble we’ve had this year. True, a productive and trouble-free Perrilloux may have helped us win one, or two, or maybe all the games we’ve lost this year. We’ll never know, but one thing is for sure, that is the risk Miles took and he should be applauded for it.

LSU Welcomes Saban and the Highly Underrated SEC Gameday Weather Forecasts
Saturday night will be the first time Nick Saban has lead a team into Death Valley since LSU followed him in and beat Ole Miss 27-24 in November 2004. LSU will play host to Saban’s Crimson Tide of Alabama at 2:30 CT on CBS.
Saban certainly left large shoes to fill when he left the Tigers to coach in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins. Coach Saban brought LSU 3 bowl wins in 5 tries, 2 SEC Championships, and one National Champonship. Not a bad record for 5 years on the job. It is an understatement that Saban gave Tiger fans something to be proud of again. Some of us can still barely remember the days before him of Gerry Dinardo or even Coach Curly Hallman. Those tough times in Tiger history seem almost like ancient memories now. Saban turned it around here at LSU and we were grateful…….
……….Until he lied and took the head coach opening left at Alabama after the departure of Mike Shula. Saban repeatedly told the media and Miami Dolphin fans, “I’m not going to be the Alabama coach”. Well we all know what happened next and before we knew it, Nick Saban was wearing a crimson tie standing in front of Bama fans saying how happy he was to be there. Rumors have spread that his wife was the main cause for the decision to leave LSU for bigger city, but then realized how much she liked the college town. Either way it worked out great for the Saban family. He has lied his way to a $4 Million per year salary.
LSU Getting Over it and Moving On and the Highly Underrated SEC Gametime Weather Forecasts
The LSU Tigers showed what may be their true identity last Saturday afternoon in Tiger Stadium losing to Georgia 52-38. The blame is being thrown around like the tomatoes at the famous ’La Tomatino’ tomato fight held in Spain once a year. Pieces of the blame might be found on Jarrett Lee’s jersey for the two interceptions returned for touchdowns that he threw. One of the INT’s thrown on the first pass of the game. Blame could be placed on the defense for forgetting how to execute and make tackles. Blame could be placed on the two coordinators of the defense, but according to head coach Les Miles after watching film, the defensive calls that were made were the right calls for the right situation, the players just didn’t execute. The blame could also be placed on the fans themselves for holding lofty expectations and giving in to the so-called ‘experts’ on TV that tell us what to believe.
As fans, we get so excited in the preseason when someone on TV says that our team is great.
LSU Gears up For the Bulldogs and the Highly Underrated SEC Gameday Weather Forecasts
LSU is now in countdown mode for yet another huge SEC game. This week it’s against the University of
Georgia, a team who was ranked #1 in preseason polls. Even after an early loss to Alabama by the Bulldogs, this game still has great implications in the SEC and National Title races. Georgia is trying to stay in the hunt for the SEC East, and LSU in the West. Tiger stadium will be rocking yet again as this game guarantees to be explosive.
There really isn’t any bad blood between these two teams, as they don’t play every year. In recent years however, LSU beat Georgia twice in their National Title year of 2003, once in a close game in Tiger Stadium and the other in a romp for the SEC Championship. LSU went on to beat Oklahoma for its first BCS title. Georgia got their revenge in 2005 when the two teams met again in Atlanta, GA for the SEC title. Georgia won that day 34-14. LSU went on to defeat Miami in the Peach bowl, 40-3, in Matt Flynn’s coming out party. So there may not be any bad blood between the Tigers and Bulldogs, but these guys know what’s on the line and you can bet the game will be hard fought.
LSU is back in Tiger Stadium after a 1-1 road trip. The Tigers have played very well in Death Valley under Les Miles’ tenure, only losing twice……both in overtime with one of the losses in triple overtime (Tennessee in 2005, Arkansas 2007). Another LSUTOPIA.com writer’s namesake comes from a quote of Miles from last season, when he explained how LSU was “Undefeated in Regulation”. He’s right! When the Tigers have played in Tiger Stadium since 2005, they are nearly unstoppable.
LSU Moving On and the Highly Underrated SEC Weather Forecasts
Well, its Wednesday again. As explained last week, this is the day that as Tiger fans, we are usually finished riding a big win or getting over a big loss. We all know what happened last Saturday in Gainesville and today is the day we begin getting excited for the game this Saturday against South Carolina in Columbia at 8ET on ESPN.
South Carolina has a tough defense with a strong front line that very well could put a strain on LSU’s offense, much like Florida did last week. On offense, SC thinks they have found their QB in a 6’2″ 221lb, true freshman. He has impressed the Gamecock coaches so far so he will get the nod. After the way LSU played last week, I believe that the Tigers match up pretty evenly with the Gamecocks and I look forward to seeing if they can overcome last week’s embarassment and get back on the right track.
There hasn’t been much LSU buzz this week around campus or in the Baton Rouge area. I think some people are still experiencing the bad-loss-hangover. However, today is the day to lift up your heads, put on a purple and/or gold shirt for the first time since last Saturday and get ready for the next big matchup against the “Ole Ball Coach”, Steve Spurrier. I will be traveling to Columbia for the game. It will be my first time there and I am really looking forward to it. You can bet that SC will be ready after the Tigers beat them in Death Valley last season. Coach Miles used a Spurrier-esque, trick play of his own when Matt Flynn took the snap on a field goal and flipped it over his head to a streaking Colt David. The result was a touchdown, a big smile from Miles, and a look of disbelief from Spurrier. And you can bet the “Ole Ball Coach” and the SC players haven’t forgotten.

Wednesday LSU Hype and the Highly Underrated Weather Forecasts
Wednesday is the first day of the week that I usually always wake up and begin to have anxiety for the upcoming LSU game. Regardless of whether we won the previous weekend or not, by Wednesday we are pretty much over a loss or finished riding the win and ready for the next one.
This Wednesday morning feels a little different with the bye week preceding it. Last weekend, I wasnt sure what to do with myself without an LSU game to watch. We had to find a game on TV, most likely an SEC game, and pretend to pull for one team over the other, even if we hated both. Even Les Miles expressed his own sense of awkwardness on Saturday saying that after he watched his two sons play their pee-wee league football games on Saturday morning, he felt uneasy wishing the Tigers were playing that day.
Today however, I am sure that I share the same sentiment with Tiger fans around the country….I can’t wait for Saturday! The game with Florida Saturday night on CBS has the makings to be as much of a fireworks show as last years extremely hard-fought 28-24 Tiger victory in Baton Rouge. This years game has the same at stake for both teams. A loss for LSU would take the SEC West steering wheel out of our hands. A loss by Florida very well could take them out of the SEC East race, not to mention the national title picture. Some experts are still picking Florda to be in Miami on January 8. www.cfn.scout.com The thought of this is enough to rile up Tiger fans. Who knows what it does to the guys wearing the gold helmets….
