Scout.com Releases Top 100 Prospects for 2010

I’ve talked a good bit about Rivals list of prospects for 2010, but Scout.com also has a damn good recruiting site and just released their Top 100 Prospects for the 2010 football season.   Much like the Rivals list, the Scout list is short on Louisiana talent.  Only two guys from the Bayou State made the cut with Trovon Reed ranked the highest at 19th.  Scout lists 25, five-star guys as opposed to Rivals 10 five-star guys….so yes, Trovon is a five-star.  Reed is steady collecting offers from every major school in the country, but hopefully the Tigers can keep this superstar in state.  Man, the thought of Reed and Randle on the field at the same time is just awesome.  As you scan the list, you’ll see LSU is at least listed as having a chance with about 20 of the guys according to Scout.

LSU verbal Mike Davis is listed as the number 52 player in the country.

Tiger Football Picks Up First Two Commits for 2010 – Double Update

[caption id="attachment_1435" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="(If he plays as good as he looks, we'll be just fine. C'mon, that's a cool lookin dude.)"](If he plays as good as he looks, we'll be just fine. C'mon, that's a cool lookin dude.)[/caption]

I suppose when you see how well the Tigers recruit, you dont wait around once they offer you, knowing that offer might get yanked if someone better than you at your position starts to fancy Les and company.  Miles picked up his first two commitments for the 2010 class this weekend in TE Nick Jacobs from Many (pictured above) and ATH Tharold Simon from Eunice who chose the Tigers over offers from Tulsa and Texas A&M.  So, we’re off and running at the number 1 spot for 2010.  Well done Lesticles!

** So after this post went up, Miles got a third commitment from WR Mike Davis from Dallas, TX.  Davis had offers from a ton of schools…Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, and Florida to name a few.  With powerhouses (sans A&M and Notre Dame) like that on the list, looks like LSU nailed another top prospect.

Just When You Thought You Were Safe From LSU Football Recruiting….

Bryce Brown

That’s right!  Rivals.com #1 rated player and top running back, Bryce Brown from Wichita, KS is visiting LSU this weekend.  Previously committed to Miami, he backed out and did not sign with the Hurricanes on Feb 4.  His visit to LSU has been talked about for about a week now, but I was skeptical he would actually make the trip.  As of this morning the plan was for him to arrive to campus today with his parents.  His father is from Bogalusa, LA which is only about 75 miles from Baton Rouge, as the crow flies.  He still has family living there.

He will get a first hand look at all that LSU has to offer to make him a star in college football.  The facilities here are second to none.  Just ask Charles Scott, Keiland Williams, or any of the other RB’s on the roster.

Picking up Brown would be hugemongous for this class.  The already signed Michael Ford, is a highly rated running back out of Leesville, LA.  The two together would be a dominant force in the backfield in years to come.  As of now, with Ford as the only high profile RB in this year’s signing class, Les Miles would definitely have to make signing another RB in next year’s class a priority.  However, if Brown were to sign with the Tigers, LSU recruiters could spend their efforts at other positions.  More after the jump…..

Dirty Recruiting At It’s Finest

tenn-dirtyWell, well, well. I hate to say I told you so….but I told you so. DB Janzen Jackson has decided to play his college football with the bird shit orange and white Tennessee Vols. You might recall my post from January 7th telling you how Lance Guidry AKA Daddy was suddenly invited up to interview for a spot on the Vols coaching staff, which was also turned into an official visit to the school by Janzen. Yeah, yeah I know Daddy didn’t take the job and probably wouldn’t have gotten it anyway, but it sure was a great way to get the kid up there and have his mind raped into thinking Tennessee is a better fit for him. Here’s a quote from Guidry letting you know how much he thought his son was going to Tennessee: after jump

National Signing Day: What does it all mean??

les-miles-nutsWARNING:  You need to get ready for it.  That ridiculous co-worker of yours is going to tell you this morning about how awesome LSU is going to be next year because we had a good recruiting class.  He’ll tell you how we signed all these massive recruits and regurgitate a bunch of stats to you that he memorized in the last 24 hours…half of which are completely wrong.  This phenomina happens each and every year after signing day and lasts about a week.  The fact is, 80% of these guys wont see the field at all in 2009, and 95% of them wont make any kind of impact.  I’m happy as a pig in shit we nailed damn near all the guys that we went after, but let’s have these guys get through prom before we annoint them BCS champions!

Looking back at yesterday, Kenny Bell’s defection to Bama isnt that big of a deal and Auburn can have DeAngelo Benton because someone told me that he’s legally retarded (but dont tell him I told you cuz I’m pretty sure he’s bigger than me).  Trent Richardson was just pulling everyone’s chain and the rest of the guys who went elsewhere today were longshots at best.  However, I would like to add that Nick Saban is Satan…he clubs baby seals and I have a friend who had a friend who said they he knows that Nick is meanie head pecker face.

As for the good stuff, on paper…this class is a brick shithouse.  I mean, studs at every position.  Randle, Shepard, Davenport, Montgomery, Mingo, Downs, Loston…the list goes on and on.  Randle and Shepard will probably find the field next year in the receiving corps and make a difference.  Downs, Davenport, Loston, and Montgomery will probably start to work into the lineup starting next year.  And Mingo….a friggin 6′ 5″ LB that runs a 4.6.  Sweeeeeet.

As for Janzen Jackson, I guess we’ll see.  Obviously we’d love to have him, but if he takes off too…it wont be the end of the world.  Anyway, the full class is after the jump.

LSU Tigers Take Care of Business on the Court at UGA

geaux-tigersThe LSU Tigers took their 17-4 record into Athens, GA tonight to take on the Georgia Bulldogs (9-12).  LSU was looking to extend it’s 5-game SEC winning streak after the recent road win over Tennessee, who after losing to the Tigers, dominated the Florida Gators in their next game.  LSU also was also coming off a hard fought home win over Arkansas last Saturday.  LSU played another good game tonight, however, the scoring for the Tigers was a bit lopsided.  Marcus Thornton dropped in 30 on 11-18 shooting, 3-5 from the arc, and 5-5 on freebies.  Tasmin Mitchell added 27 on 12-16 shooting.  The next highest scorer for the Tigers was Chris Johnson at 7.

The Tigers won the assists battle, 17-8 as well as the rebounding, 36-32.  The Tigers shot 50% from the field overall and only had 10 turnovers.  They played a Georgia team that is struggling this year and they did exactly what they were supposed to do tonight.  Coach Johnson had this team  focused once again on the road, winning the game 80-62.  More after the jump.

LSU took over in the 2nd half after only leading by 4 at the break, 35-31.  The Tigers were up as much as 23 with 7 minutes left.  The starters eventually took their seats and LSU cruised to the win.  Storm Warren made the last layup that gave the Tigers the magic number of 80 points.

SIGNING DAY!!!!!

Quick post to remind everyone that no matter what happens today, a great team, signing day does not ensure.  Remember how awesome it was when we signed Xavier Carter?  How many top 10 classes has Notre Dame had in the past decade?  Granted, its a huge part of the game.  You’re not going to win without good players.  However, if you miss out on that “big time five star guy,” its not the end of the world.  While there’s certainly a Tim Tebow or two out there, there is also plenty of Ryan Perilloux’s.

Nation’s #1 Rated Safety, Craig Loston, Commits to LSU

craigloston2jd08200And the news gets better.  Craig Loston, the top rated safety in all of the land, chose LSU today at the skills challenge at the Under Armour All America Game.  It always feels good to pluck top talent out of Texas and give the bird to the Longhorns and Sooners.  This could end up being a huge weekend for LSU with a couple of more studs set to make their announcements on Sunday.  Cross your fingers.
