Football Recruiting Update

[caption id="attachment_1596" align="alignleft" width="179" caption="(Eric Reid)"](Eric Reid)[/caption]

Recruiting for 2010 seems to be rolling right along.  Since our last update, LSU has added two more players to their commitment list for 2010.  Only a couple of days after picking up those four guys, LSU added D.J. Welter, a linebacker from Crowley.  He’s not currently listed in the Rivals 250, but the list is ever changing and he’s got an entire season to prove what he’s made of.  Then on March 19, LSU got the nod from Eric Reid, a Rivals 100 safety from Geismar.  Reid is one of only three Louisiana players listed in the top 100, so its good to see Les and company keeping the top players in the state.*  Scanning the rest of the top 100, LSU is at least in the running for half of the players listed, so if we can just get a 10% close rate, we’ll be doing just fine.  Might not be a top 5 class, but top 15 for sure.

*as we all know, verbal commitments dont mean anything.  even if a guy has been a verbal for over a year, he can still back out….after national signing day is over… and sign with the new scumbag coach at tennessee.  ya, im talking to you jackson.

Just When You Thought You Were Safe From LSU Football Recruiting….

Bryce Brown

That’s right!  Rivals.com #1 rated player and top running back, Bryce Brown from Wichita, KS is visiting LSU this weekend.  Previously committed to Miami, he backed out and did not sign with the Hurricanes on Feb 4.  His visit to LSU has been talked about for about a week now, but I was skeptical he would actually make the trip.  As of this morning the plan was for him to arrive to campus today with his parents.  His father is from Bogalusa, LA which is only about 75 miles from Baton Rouge, as the crow flies.  He still has family living there.

He will get a first hand look at all that LSU has to offer to make him a star in college football.  The facilities here are second to none.  Just ask Charles Scott, Keiland Williams, or any of the other RB’s on the roster.

Picking up Brown would be hugemongous for this class.  The already signed Michael Ford, is a highly rated running back out of Leesville, LA.  The two together would be a dominant force in the backfield in years to come.  As of now, with Ford as the only high profile RB in this year’s signing class, Les Miles would definitely have to make signing another RB in next year’s class a priority.  However, if Brown were to sign with the Tigers, LSU recruiters could spend their efforts at other positions.  More after the jump…..

LSU Recruiting: A Look Back at 2002

Its no secret that a good recruiting class can lead to success on the playing field.  We got another great class this year, however, as we’ve found out here at LSU, some of the “big gets” arent always the ones who make the most impact down in Baton Rouge.  Let’s rewind six seasons and take a look at the recruiting class of 2002 and see how everyone turned out.  Some guys played, some didnt.  Some were as good as advertised, and some never lived up to the hype.

Looking back at 2002, the class consisted of six two-star guys, nine three-star guys, ten four-star guys, and one five-star guy in Justin Vincent who actually didnt academically qualify and had to go play a season at Hargrave Academy in Virginia.  Where the guys came from geographically was, as always heavy on the Louisiana boys, but did land several guys from across the country.  There were 18 guys from Louisiana, four guys from Florida, one guy from Texas, one guy from Pennsylvania, one guy from California, and one guy from Canada.

Full Class According to Rivals.com:

Dirty Recruiting At It’s Finest

tenn-dirtyWell, well, well. I hate to say I told you so….but I told you so. DB Janzen Jackson has decided to play his college football with the bird shit orange and white Tennessee Vols. You might recall my post from January 7th telling you how Lance Guidry AKA Daddy was suddenly invited up to interview for a spot on the Vols coaching staff, which was also turned into an official visit to the school by Janzen. Yeah, yeah I know Daddy didn’t take the job and probably wouldn’t have gotten it anyway, but it sure was a great way to get the kid up there and have his mind raped into thinking Tennessee is a better fit for him. Here’s a quote from Guidry letting you know how much he thought his son was going to Tennessee: after jump

Stop Holding your Breath, Signing Day is Here!

Alright Tiger fans, we can all get ready to take a long, deep breath because National Signing Day is finally upon us. Things are certainly looking good for the Tigers ’09 signing class, but I won’t say anymore than that for fear of jinxing us. It was very nice to get an early commitment from a guy ranked number 1 on everyone’s Coolest Name Board, LB Barkevious Mingo. Don’t believe me? Go here and eat it. I hope you all can fake sick take a personal day from work and make it out to the Bash. And for those first timers out there here are a few things I’ve learned from my previous trips to the river front: after jump

Look Out! There’re Snakes in the Grass!

Damn, and my morning started off really well. Then I read things like this from DandyDon. Sounds a little fishy too, with daddy “interviewing” for a job at Tenn and all. Just think how hard it would be to be an 18 year old kid trying to make a decision on your future with all these adults around you pumping smoke up your ass and also having your father involved. And hey, I know all’s fair in football and war, but lay off our players or I’ll cut you.

“In other recruiting news, Nick Saban of Alabama and new head coach Lane Kiffin and defensive line coach Ed Orgeron of Tennessee are trying to convince LSU commitment Janzen Jackson to decommit from LSU and sign with Alabama or Tennessee. more after jump…
