Gorilla Ball Back at the Box

The LSU baseball team came out in full force last night stomping Tulane 13-2. The Tigers were lead by white hot Blake Dean and Ryan Schimpf’s two back to back home runs (that’s 4 home runs for the math whizzes) in the monstrous 10 run fifth inning that lead to the mercy rule stoppage in the 7th. It’s real good to see these guys swing the bats so well going in to the latter half of the season. Dean started off a little slow this season but no one in the country is hitting the ball as well as he is right now and that’s great news for the Tigers. The Tigers will bring this momentum with them this weekend to a big three game Western Division series at #12Arkansas. You can catch this weekend’s games on Cox or 98.1. gorilla ball stats after jump

Baseball Game Rescheduled, Mother Nature is a Smelly Pirate Hooker
If you flipped it on Cox Sports last night or went up to the Box to catch a baseball game you were SOL because there wasn’t one and you should be hit over the head with a hammer because you should have noticed the lights off and no cars in the parking lot. Apparently the rain on that side of town was bad enough to cancel the game and reschedule it for tonight at 6:30. Your tickets for Tuesday’s game will be honored so bring those with you if you plan to attend. The bad news for those of you who can’t make it is that it will not be televised for LSU vs Tulane part deux. The weather looks to be nice tonight so hopefully the Tigers can extend their win streak to six.

LSU Baseball Sweeps Auburn
Well its about f’n time! The LSU Tiger baseball team completed a three game sweep of SEC West rival Auburn on Sunday by a score of 7-6. Third baseman Tyler Hanover had a three-run dong and Jared Mitchell had three hits in front of 5,998 fans at Alex Box Stadium. Reliever Daniel Bradshaw (3-0) got the win and Matty Ott recorded his 10th save of the year.
Hopefully this is just the beginning of the Tigers kicking ass and taking names. The team has been pretty all over the place the last month, so a series like this could be just what they need. The baseball Tigers return to the field on Tuesday when they meet Tulane at the Box.
Tigers Give Up Four Runs in the 9th, Hold On
Top ranked LSU was cruising against UNO Tuesday night. The Tigers had an 8-2 lead going into the 9th inning, when the Privateers scored 4 runs to give LSU a scare before the eventual third out. LSU wins 8-6.
Blake Dean hit another home run, making that one home run in each of three games in a row. Where I’m from, that’s called a streak. Dean has also now driven in 13 runs in the last four games.
Speaking of streaks, Mikie Mahtook extended his hitting streak to 13 games by picking up 3 more hits tonight. The freshman from Lafayette continues to play well and contribute significantly for the Tigers. He is leading the team in batting average on the season with a .390 average.

What a Weekend!
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend and are as reluctantly back at work as I am. I spent my little break on the beach trying for the World Records in foot and thigh sunburn. How ya like that visual? All that aside, what a hell of a weekend we have coming up here in the Red Stick for LSU sports. The spring game, men’s tennis, baseball, track, softball – -you name it and it’s being played this weekend. So even all you ADD LSU fans can keep busy, if not, bring a ball of yarn or something to play with. The good folks with the LSU Athletic Department are going to reward you for your rabid sports following by offering prizes for attending four or more events this weekend. Here’s how it works: print out your Super Tiger Fan Card (we like to say super awesome fierce Tiger Fan Card here at LSUtopia), bring it to the events you attend and get the people at the Fan Zone to give you a little sticker saying you were actually there. After you have attended four events for the weekend you automatically get a T-shirt (which I bet will have a pic of that mega-badass super tiger from the pic above. Bring it on Big Al from Alabama with your big, fat grey ass) and an entry to win any of the following things: after jump
LSU Baseball Back at #1
The Tigers are back on top of the college baseball world as voted by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. All 3 polls have LSU as the #1 team in the country after winning 2 of 3 at Alabama last weekend. The USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll has the Tigers at #3
LSU began the season at #1 in some polls, but lost the ranking on March 2nd. It feels good to be back at the top. However, LSU (26-9, 10-5) trails Arkansas by 1/2 game in the SEC West and Georgia (still USA Today/ ESPN’s #1) by a full game in the overall SEC standings. This weekend, LSU will play host to Tennessee and will try to gain some ground on UGA and Arkansas.
In other news, Blake Dean was honored with the SEC Player of the Week. Dean went 6 for 12 with one double, two homers, 10 RBI’s, and 2 runs scored in the weekend series with Bama. Over the week, he hit .412. Dean became the sixth LSU Tiger to earn either SEC Player or Pitcher of the week this season. Congratulations!!

Short post since its a holiday. Hope you guys are having a great Easter Sunday (and if you dont celebrate, then have a great regular Sunday). So LSU baseball got their dicks kicked in last night. The Tigers never got it going and ended up getting throttled 13-5. When you give up six walks and commit two errors, you get beat. Blake Dean did go 2-4 with a dong and had four R.B.I. in the game, so it wasnt 100% bad.
The scores from across the entire SEC are below:

The Tigers picked up a road win against Alabama last night coming back to win 8-5. LSU was down 5-2 going into the top of the 8th and scored 2, followed by 4 runs in the 9th and pulled out the win. Ryan Schimpf hit his eighth homerun of the season and Jared Mitchell hit the game winning double with two outs in the 9th. Reliever Nolan Cain (3-0) picked up the win and Manny Ott pitched very well and earned his 7th save of the season.
Tonight at 6:05, LSU (25-8, 9-4) will go for their ninth straight SEC series win dating back to last season. Again, you can catch the tonight’s and tomorrow’s games on Cox Sports TV, if you are watching in the designated viewing area.
