LSU Basketball Moves Further Up in National Polls, #11 & #12

The Tigers piled on two more wins last week and continued their hot streak in the SEC.  Now, LSU has won 13 straight conference games, 10 straight overall and for the 3rd week in a row, rise in the national ranks.  The Tigers find themselves at #11 in today’s ESPN/USA Today poll and #12 in the AP poll.  See the new polls here.

Some quick poll-analysis: the only teams with higher winning percentages than LSU are UCONN, UNC, Memphis, Pitt, and Oklahoma.  The top 10 in both polls are almost identical, however, the 11-20 ranks of both polls involve the same teams, but the order is comparably different.  For example, Villanova is #11 in the AP and #16 in the ESPN/USA Today.  (more after the jump…)

All that doesn’t really matter, just something I noticed.

A Win is a Win, is a Win…..Even Though it Was Troy

Congratulations to the LSU Tigers for pulling off the comeback that apparently 90% of Tiger fans thought improbable. LSU played with heart, desire, and determination in the last 25 minutes or so Saturday night against Troy to score 37 unanswered points and win 40-31. Way to go! In the end, it didn’t matter how it happened, all that matters is that LSU won.

And a quick shame on you to the fans that left the game. I was not in Tiger Stadium at all last night and did not personally see how bad the Tigers were playing in the first half. I can understand it can be difficult to be excited about cheering for a team that is losing 14-3, then 24-3 (after yet another pick 6 by Jarrett Lee breaking the NCAA record with 7 on the year), then 31-3. And it was homecoming-a game that should have been that lopsided the other way. But unless you were invited to Hugh Hefner’s birthday party at the Playboy Mansion and had to leave……keep your butt in your seat! If for no other reason than to see if the Tigers might be resilient enough to at least play with pride and try to make it close for the remainder of the game. Where did all of you have to be???

The lack of fans in Tiger Stadium by the end of the 3rd quarter was even called out by the “College Gameday” crew on ESPN late Saturday night showing highlights. Rece Davis said, “Tiger fans will bail on their team when it’s not going well, I’ve been down there…I’ve seen it.”
