LSU Tiger Football Expected to not Suck in 2009
So I went searchin on the interweb for some stuff on the 2009 version of the LSU Tiger football team and was pretty surprised at what I found. First, there’s Chris Low, the excellent SEC blogger for ESPN who said the following in his list of 5 things to look for in 2009:
LSU fights back: After underachieving for much of this season on defense, the Tigers will get back to their attacking style in 2009 under new coordinator John Chavis. They were missing that edge this season, but the fiery Chavis will see to it that they get it back on the Bayou.
Then, I went over to Rivals.com and saw their look ahead at the top 25 for 2009 . Much to my surprise, they have the Tigers at number 5! Their top 4….Florida, Texas, USC, and Oklahoma.
I stumbled on over to SI.com and Stewart Mandel, their top college football writer, had just put out his top 10 for 2009. Like Rivals…he’s got Florida, Texas, USC, and Oklahoma as his top 4. When I got to his #5, I actually “WTF’d” out loud. BAMA? Are you shitting me? If Bama finishes in the top 10 next year, I’ll get a full on Brazilian wax and post the video on this site. I actually see Bama finishing 3rd in the SEC West behind us and Ole Miss. No way. He’s got LSU at 9, which I think is about right.
I honestly think, WITH STEADY QB PLAY, the Tigers are a top 10 team. We have all of our playmakers returning from last year and have added at least two, in Russell Shepard and Craig Loston, who can contribute next year as well. <Fingers crossed> Add in a Rueben Randle and hot damn! We might have an offense that causes teams some real problems. Of course, you can score 35 points per game and still lose if your defense sucks. But I think we’ve addressed that little problem and we’ll see a huge difference next year. Here’s to a top 10 finish in ’09!

Game Day Near – Nobody to Care about the LSU Basketball Game
I apologize to our loyal readers who I know were crushed that I have deprived them of my incredible wit for the past 10 days or so. I promise, it will never happen again!
So the day is here….almost. Tomorrow evening the Tigers take to the field to prove that they dont suck as bad as everyone thinks. Most experts are picking the Jackets in this one, but CollegeFootballNews, the best college football site on the planet, is actually picking the Tigers to win a close one.
I’m going to flip flop from my original feeling on this game. With the Tigers having a month to prepare for the option, I’d like to think that all our 4 and 5 star athletes can finally put an entire game together and play like they are capable of playing. Discipline is the key to this game. If the defense plays a hard-nosed disciplined game, I think we can win by 10 points plus. If they play stupid, like most of the season, we’ll lose by 10 plus. So long as the defense keeps him in the game, I think Jordan Jefferson does just enough for us to pull this one out.

One Down…One to Go
Peveto has accepted the head coaching job at Northwestern State. However, he will finish up his co-defensive coordinator duties at LSU before heading out. (sarcastic yaaaaaaaay) So good luck to him, I wish him the best. Now we just have one more to get out of here and then hire a stud DC.

BCS Title Contenders and Pretenders
Now that we are about 2 months into the NCAA season, one can start to separate the contenders from the pretenders in the national title picture. I think LSU is an actual contender. As with every team in the SEC, we control our own destiny here. I mean, win the SEC with only one loss and your are damn near ensured a place in the title game. Below, I’ll give you my “still maybe too early to really tell” list of contenders and pretenders.
Contenders:
- Oklahoma – They’re playing at another level. I think they are the team to beat in college football and they will prove it this weekend.
- Alabama – If they beat us, they’re in the driver’s seat. They’ll still have to beat either Florida or Georgia again in the SEC championship…so maybe I’m giving them too much credit.
