LSU Basketball Continues to Overachieve
LSU comes from behind to beat Kentucky in Lexington and now owns the 2008-2009 SEC title outright!! These guys continue to find ways to win and have done so 10 games in a row overall and for 13 consecutive SEC games.
The visiting team locker room doors were closed Saturday night in Rupp Arena, but ESPN’s Pat Forde could hear chants of “LSU, LSU, LSU” coming from inside. It was just a part of the story of LSU’s season of which he found compelling enough to write one of his own……. click here (more after the jump)
Now that the Tigers are 25-4 and have won 4 straight while being ranked in the top 25 nationally, there is no doubt they will move up in those polls and possibly receive a 3-5 seed in the NCAA tournament. However, I believe that with still 2 games left; one at home against Vandy and another at Auburn, Trent Johnson will coach each of them the way he has coached the last 13 SEC games the Tigers have played and won….. not thinking about the postseason.

Way too early preview of the 2009 Heisman Race and random tidbits
Happy Martin Luther King Day! If you are at home right now reading this, it means you work for a progressive company that gives you MLK Day off…I hate you. I, unfortunately, do not. I’m at the office working away as if were Martin Scorsese Day or Martin Sheen Day or Steve Martin Day instead of Martin Luther King Day. I’m a little bitter, but wtf.
With the announcements that Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow, and Sam Bradford would all be returning for their senior years, its sets up one of the most hyped Heisman races in recent memory. Considering all three of these dudes were in New York LAST YEAR, and there is no sign that any of their teams will be slowing down, we can only imagine that they’ll all be back in 2009. Throw a few wild cards in there such as Jevan Snead, Jahvid Best, and Dez Bryant…ya, wow.
Much has been made of the way USC coach Pete Carroll reacted to his star quarterback, Mark Sanchez, jetting out a year early for the NFL. Boo fuckin hoo. Pete, you somehow smooth talked Carson Palmer into staying, then totally conned Matt Leinart into coming back for his senior year, and to a smaller degree, John David Booty (though he wasnt nearly as coveted as the other two). Let me break it to you Pete, you cost Matt Leinart several million dollars as well as a starting job (as he would have been the #1 overall pick had he left his junior year, and #1 picks start…period). Not only that, how could you ever tell a kid that is certain to be a top 15 pick that it is in his best interest to return to school? As soon as his name is called, he’s set for life. He’ll get a multi-million dollar contract as well a seven-figure signing bonus, a few endorsements, and avoids the chance of a career ending injury while playing football for free. Dont be selfish Pete, you’ve got Mitch Mustain and an incoming Matt Barkley who might be good enough to start now. Dont make a kid feel bad for a decision that is clearly in his best interests…even if it is not in yours.

LSU Football Looks Forward to a Successful 2009
With the early enrollment of Russell Shepard to LSU and his first day of school today, ……by the way, this is something he said about coming to LSU:
“I’m coming in with a lot of hype, but I’m a freshman again, ” he said. “I want to learn what they have done to be successful. I haven’t done anything in college yet. I’m a team player. I’ll hold for field goals, I’ll take trash out, I’ll do everything to build their trust in me and become the player to, hopefully, help win titles.”…….. what a kid! More after the jump…
Along with the several new coaches on the defense, 2009 already looks to be a huge improvement on the 2008 season. An excellent article breaks down 16 different parts of the LSU team that should prove to make for a championship caliber team next season:
