They do it every year around this time. The guys over at collegefootballnews.com come up with their ridiculous ‘Way Too Early Bowl Predictions’. This year is no different. Sure, it’s fun to think about the season ahead of time and try to come up with who you think will win it all and how the season will shake out. But…..
Truth is, no one ever knows. Do you remember the unbelievably wacky 2007 season, when LSU made it to the National Championship game on the last night of the season? Oh and by the way, I’m pretty sure these guys just give USC the automatic bid to the championship game every year and then just insert the hottest team from the year prior. This time around, it’s last year’s champs, Florida. More after the jump……
What does that say about USC?…… They’re good every year? Maybe. They’re a big fish in a crappy conference/pond? Yes. Personally, I think USC might struggle a bit this year. They’ve got Ohio State, Cal, Notre Dame (I know, big deal, right?), Oregon, and Arizona St. all on the road. They’ll have a brand new quarterback, and they just lost an entire NFL team to the NFL. It won’t be just a walk in the park for the Trojans.
So where is LSU in all this? Well, the CFN guys considered them for the BCS Nat’l Championship in the Rose Bowl, but think Florida will be too much to get the spot. They considered the Tigers for the Sugar Bowl, but they think Ole Miss will represent the West in the SEC Championship and lose to Florida, taking the spot in New Orleans Jan 1. When the cards fell, CFN predicted LSU to play Iowa in the Outback Bowl on January 1st at 11am. Let’s hope that’s not the case.
You never know. But that’s what’s fun about college football, right? When the season is all over, and even throughout the season, you get to base the teams’ results on the worthless preseason polls and predictions that people come up with ahead of time. Teams are considered shitty if they don’t live up to preseason polls and considered “amazing, who’d of ever thought, out of nowhere, etc”, if they surpass preseason expectations.
It’s fun to look at? Sure. If you predict it right, you get to brag on how ‘smart’ you are…..when smart has nothing to do with it. When you are wrong, you can just say, “well, who the hell knows what can happen”, and then you’re off the hook. Almost like predicting the weather, right?
Anyway, take a look at what CFN came up with here, but don’t let your purple and gold bleeding hearts be troubled that some sports writers have already told us how the 2009-2010 season is going to end and the Tigers are not playing in a BCS Bowl game this year. The Tigers have a shot to be a great team this year. I for one can’t wait to get it started. 124 more days ’til it does, at Washington. One game at a time.
GEAUX TIGERS!!!
