Collegefootballnews.com has voted LSU as tied for the 10th best WR school in college football. Here is the story.
Everyone remembers where they were when Michael Clayton tipped the ball to Jack Hunt Devery Henderson in Lexington, KY November 9, 2002. And man, I can remember being in Tuscaloosa the day that Josh Reed and Rohan Davy went off and torched the Tide 35-21, setting team records in the process. Reed caught 19 passes for 293 yards and a TD. Davey had 528 yards passing. LSU’s wide receivers have always been solid as long as Jarrett Lee wasn’t throwing to them. More after the jump.
The WR’s listed are Josh Reed, Wendell Davis, Michael Clayton, Eric Martin, and Andy Hamilton. Hamilton is the only guy out of my age range, but apparently was pretty good, averaging 19.9 yards per catch.
I actually got to meet Wendell Davis once as he is from Shreveport and at one time was a client of my uncle. Super nice guy, fantastic wide receiver, and had a decent NFL career until injuring both knees on Philadelphia’s shitty astroturf at the time. He was the LSU leader in yards before Clayton took that.
Reed was a stud on the field. He caught everything. In my opinion, the best WR to ever play at LSU. He won the Biletnikoff in 2001 and had over 3,000 yards in his college career. He makes a Sportscenter highlight for the Buffalo Bills every now and then. He is still a solid, but not flashy WR that just makes catches.
And let’s not forget about the guys that have played recently….. Dwayne Bowe, Early Doucet, Craig ‘Buster’ Davis, Demetrius Byrd to name a few. I still don’t know how he made that catch against Auburn……I get chills everytime I see it. And in case you didn’t know, Byrd can sing too. Here he is with RB Charles Scott……. Hilarious!
If you look at the teams at the top of the list, I honestly did not expect LSU to be on it. There are some really great WR schools up there. But sure enough, you scroll down and there are the best Tigers to ever catch a football.
GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Wow, I wouldn’t have pegged us to be in the top ten either. Lol, you know it’s a good post when one of the tags is “mustache fart”
You forgot to mention Tony Moss and Todd Kinchen, the best white man to ever play receiver at LSU.
Correct Doc, they were both great.
I got to hold Todd Kinchen’s helmet when we toured the locker room in the 5th grade. #49 baby!!
Tony Moss deals at on of the casinos in Shreveport. Saw him there a couple years ago.
But he could catch the ball.
I remember when Devery Henderson got all the credit for Jack Hunt’s catch. The white man never gets any glory in sports!
