Hey Guys,
Not much to say here. Its game day and we’re all about to go get hammered. I’ll be in the club level taking in the festivities, unless the tickets we got on Ebay are fake. After the jump, you’ll find our final picks of the season. We’re split on whether the Tigers can pull it off. I suppose we’ll see. Have a great New Year’s and GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Game Day Near – Nobody to Care about the LSU Basketball Game
I apologize to our loyal readers who I know were crushed that I have deprived them of my incredible wit for the past 10 days or so. I promise, it will never happen again!
So the day is here….almost. Tomorrow evening the Tigers take to the field to prove that they dont suck as bad as everyone thinks. Most experts are picking the Jackets in this one, but CollegeFootballNews, the best college football site on the planet, is actually picking the Tigers to win a close one.
I’m going to flip flop from my original feeling on this game. With the Tigers having a month to prepare for the option, I’d like to think that all our 4 and 5 star athletes can finally put an entire game together and play like they are capable of playing. Discipline is the key to this game. If the defense plays a hard-nosed disciplined game, I think we can win by 10 points plus. If they play stupid, like most of the season, we’ll lose by 10 plus. So long as the defense keeps him in the game, I think Jordan Jefferson does just enough for us to pull this one out.

John Chavis looks to be LSU’s next D-Coordinator
It’s been a busy day for sports news with 3 NFL coaches being fired, an interesting NFL playoff lineup, and Nick Saban suspends Alabama’s Outland Trophy winner and All-American, OT Andre Smith, from the Sugar Bowl for “improper dealings with an agent”; he’s likely to enter the NFL draft (top 5 projection)…… He was sent home from New Orleans soon after the team arrived to continue preparations for Utah.
However, news also broke that Les Miles might have found his new Defensive Coordinator. John Chavis has coached at Tennessee under the recently departed Phil Fulmer for the last 14 seasons. It was also reported that LSU made a more lucrative offer than Clemson, who was also trying to snag Chavis. Despite the Vols’ struggles this year, they finished 4th nationally in total defense. They have had other solid defenses over his tenure there, including holding LSU to only one offensive touchdown in last year’s SEC Championship game.
New Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin will be bringing in his dad, Monte, to take over at Chavis’ former position. Chavis may also be bring with him to LSU a defensive tackles coach and a defensive ends coach, that both coached with him at Tennessee.

Inside a recruit’s head
LSU recently lost out on prize defensive end Jamarkus McFarland of Lufkin, TX, to Oklahoma. The NY times wrote this
article detailing some of his adventures over the past couple of months. I expected to read the article and come out infuriated with LSU and how we lost this guy, but ended up turning that anger toward the liberal NY Times and this guy’s mother. We don’t want this guy, he is a 290 pound Mama’s boy, and I am glad we got the guy from Mansfield instead.
Some of the disturbing excerpts from the piece include NY Times repeatedly saying LSU made the worst impression by far. Here are some of the reasons: Les Miles was apparently dry to the mother. They hosted them after the 52-38 drubbing by Georgia. Miles probably wasn’t in the best mood, and after reading what this mother thought about Mac Brown and Will Muschamp, I am probably led to believe that he was “dry” because he was not on his hands and knees for her kid. One other “negative” was that apparently there were hostesses sitting in the laps of recruits. A little iffy I admit, but the story details a Texas party where there were free drugs, alcohol, and women stripping naked. Also details of an Oklahoma sorority party with free booze for everyone involved. Clearly the LSU party was by far the most scandalous. The last “negative” of the LSU program was that a maid would clean his dorm room once a week. This is terrible and I cannot believe that LSU could stand for this.
I hope you can grab the sarcasm in my post. Let me repeat, we don’t want this guy and the baggage that his mother brings. Now we can turn our attention to the other 5 star guys.

LSU Baseball Ranked #1 in Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll
The LSU Tiger Baseball Team is ranked number one in the preseason poll released on Monday by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The complete poll can be seen here. LSU edged out North Carolina by one point to claim the top spot. Rice, Georgia, and Stanford round out the top five.
LSU is lead by several projected early round picks in the 2009 MLB draft such as OF Jared Mitchell, OF Blake Dean, and SS D.J. LaMahieu. Also returning are standouts Micah Gibbs, Ryan Schimpf, Leon Landry, and Shawn Ochinko. In all, the Tigers have eight starters returning from a team made it all the way to the College World Series in Omaha last year.
After struggling through a tough 7-5 football season this year, fans have something to look forward to in the new year. The basketball team is 9-1, we currently have the #1 recruiting class in the nation, Brad Pevito is leaving – ending the dreaded co-defensive coordinator shit, and the baseball team is projected to be good. Things are looking up. Like Stevie Wonder says….Go Tigers!

Is it Baseball Season Yet?
Well with football being a disappointment with only the bowl to go, and the basketball team posting a disappointing 62-59 squeaker over McNeese State, the Tigers are soon to have folks wondering when the new Alex Box fires up.
Trent Johnson’s boys posted a less than stellar effort for a 62-59 victory including hitting only 3-6 from the line down the stretch. I am afraid that 9-1 record is about to turn the wrong direction. I hope I am wrong. Check here for details on tonight’s game.
On a positive note, Collegiate Baseball has ranked the Tigers #1 in the preseason. Although preseason rankings are about as useless as a car without tires, it is nice to see the Tigers baseball program get some preseason pub. Check out the article on lsusports for full details

Current Rivals.com Recruiting Rankings

So if you haven’t seen the recruiting rankings on Rivals.com they currently have LSU ranked at number one. We have three 5 star commits and eleven 4 star commits.
Obviously none of these guys have officially signed yet but it is nice to see our recruiting still turning in some good kids.
The notables from this list: Russell Shepard, Chris Davenport (pictured), Janzen Jackson.
It would really nice to land Rueben Randle a WR out of Bastrop, LA.
