I Tip My Hat to LSU!!!!!!
Granted, I haven’t posted in awhile due to school and being out of town, but I have a little bit to say about today’s game. Come last summer if you would have told me that this years LSU team would have made the NIT tournament I would have went outside and done a back flip!! With the same team coming back, I had my doubts, but this year’s team exceeded mine and everyone else’s expectations and some. If you go to tigerrant and look at the message board about half of the posts are full of kids posting how awful we are, fire Trent Johnson, and we suck……that’s what makes this website different, I think we get a more mature/realistic LSU fan base. I am “damn proud” of this basketball team and wish nothing but the best for Marcus Thorton, Temple, Johnson, Martin, and Q. Thorton. A couple of these will play again (NBA or over seas) and I will always appreciate what they did to make this season special. UNC did win, but it was fun for 35 minutes!!!! We had a chance to shock the world and we didn’t take advantage of it. UNC is a very good team and I’m sure we earned their respect!! We didn’t quit and that’s why I’m proud to be a Tiger!! On paper, our team next year looks questionable, but that’s what I said last year. I trust Coach Johnson and can’t wait till next season!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!!

SEC CHAMPS!!!!!!
Just when you thought LSU is due for a loss, they come back and prove you wrong!! LSU showed some major resiliency in their 73-70 win at Kentucky. It was the first time LSU has won at Kentucky since 1989, I was nine years old by the way. It’s been showcased for the last 4 days, Thorton vs. Meeks!! Both stars came to play today, with Thorton’s team coming out on top. Marcus Thorton was 3 for 14 in the first half, but came through in the clutch when LSU needed him. Down by 10 with about 10 minutes left in the game, Thorton carried LSU all the way back and hit some big time shots to help lift the Tigers (25-4, 13-1) to an SEC Championship.
After coming off an impressive game against Florida and having a career high in points, Garrett Temple had an off night scoring only 1 point in 25 minutes. Chris Johnson was battling the flu and scored only 2 points. Terry Martin had 8 off the bench for the Tigers. Tasmin Mitchell had a red hot first half finishing the game with 21 points and 8 rebounds including the game winning three. Bo Spencer hit the game tying three for the Tigers with less than a minute left and finished with 16. Marcus Thorton was the CBS player of the game finishing with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Meeks did outscore Thorton by one points, but Thorton’s team got the “W.” LSU has 2 remaining games left on the schedule, one at home versus Vandy, and one on the road against Auburn before they take their number 1 seed to Tampa for the SEC tournament.

Tasmin Mitchell “Just Wants to Play”
[caption id="attachment_1365" align="alignleft" width="342" caption="Tasmin Mitchell after beating J.J. Reddick and Duke in LSU's most recent Final Four season, '05-'06"]

Tasmin Mitchell is getting some great recognition in his Junior year. He was named SEC Player of the Week back on Feb 9, following two great performances against Georgia and Alabama. He was denied the same honor after averaging 30.5 points and 10 rebounds in games against Miss. St (2OT) and Ole Miss….UK’s Jodie Meeks won that week(34.0 pts, 6.0 rebs). More after the jump…..
He is averaging 16.8 points and 7.3 rebounds a game this year (also…1.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game). Solid stats for a forward in college basketball. And today, ESPN has recognized him with a great story of his career at LSU thus far. He has seen 3 coaches (one was interim, Butch Pierre), a Final Four in his freshman season (27-8, 14-2), a lowly 13-18 season two years later, and now the Tigers have turned it around and are at 23-4 with four games to play in this regular season.

I Need to Vent
Ok, yes our baseball team swept an opponent this past weekend in Baton Rouge, which was probably Villanova’s first time to step outside. Yes, we are ranked extremely high in the baseball polls. And yes, we did open up a new baseball stadium. I”m a former LSU baseball player and so by no means is this article biased. But COME ON!!!!!! Our basketball team did sweep their SEC games this past week. People say the SEC is down, but shit, it’s still extremely tough to win 11 straight SEC games!!!! By the way, we cracked the top 20 this week with being ranked 18 in both polls. We are winning these games with the same players from last year’s team. Every LSU forum I go to is saturated with LSU baseball threads. The freakin season just started, our basketball team is kicking ass and taking names this entire month of February!!!! Everyone is selling their house so they can afford to sneak in an LSU baseball game when the PMAC is not even close to being full. Did I mention we haven’t lost a game in over a month? I think this LSU basketball team is gonna do something special in the tournament and you baseball wanna be fans are gonna miss it. Where were these baseball fans two years ago when we sucked? This is the week I’ve been waiting for in terms of quality opponents in basketball. We play a tough Florida at home Tuesday and a tough Kentucky team at Kentucky this weekend. I’m salivating for the game tomorrow night and all I can read on LSU forums is how can I get LSU/Southern tickets for Wednesday night or how can I get LSU/Central Florida tickets this weekend. Get your lazy, bandwagon ass to the PMAC Tuesday night and represent LSU on ESPN in true Tiger fashion!! That is all.

Great Comeback Win For the Tigers!!!
After coming off an incredible double overtime away game victory at Mississippi State on Wednesday night the Tigers had somewhat of a hangover during their SEC home showdown against the Rebels of Ole Piss. LSU played it close early in the first half then struggled most of the second half and showed some major testicular fortitude the last 3 minutes of the game. LSU (21-4, 9-1) won their 9th straight SEC game by a final score of 73-66 against a hard-fought Ole Piss team. The Tigers are now in the drivers seat of the SEC West and also control the entire SEC. Come Monday, if LSU is not in the top 25, I’ll personally step in the octagon with the “Ice Man.”
Ole Miss was lead in scoring by David Huertas with15 points and in my opinion is one of the better players in the SEC. Marcus Thorton led all Tigers in scoring with 22 points with a hurt knee. Tasmin Mitchell was one rebound short of a double double with 9 rebounds and 20 points. With the absence of Bo Spencer, Terry Martin, the main bench scorer, was forced into the starting the rotation. With that said, LSU’s bench was awful in offensive production. Alex Farrer scored 2 points, for the only 2 points off the bench. Farrer was 2 for 5 in free throws for his lone 2 points with LSU shooting a miserable 59.3% (16-27) from the stripe. Chris Johnson was my player of the game with his stellar defense. CJ had 6 KEY blocks and 12 points for the Tigers. LSU returns to action Wednesday at Arkansas, who is looking for a much needed SEC win.

Tigers Torch the Tide
Excuse me if this article is short, but I’m on my way to the airport trying to catch a flight to Vegas for vacation, I mean a week long physical therapy conference. The first 5 minutes of the game was ugly and I was already thinking about how I can come up with a good excuse on why we can’t beat Bama in any sport this year. Then a light switch turned on and LSU looked like the best basketball team in the SEC!!! LSU was down 11-2 at the 14 minute mark and was playing the sloppiest game of the year by far, then it happened. LSU (19-4, 7-1) showed up and dominated the next 36 minutes of the basketball game winning 76-62. The final score does not indicate how bad LSU was in control. No starters played the last 6 minutes of the game, with 11 players seeing playing time in all.
Tasmin Mitchell had a double double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Marcus Thorton scored 20 points in the first half and cooled off in the second for a total of 22 for the game. LSU was up 40-28 at the half shooting 47 % from the field and finishing with 45% for the game. The Tigers were 84 % from the free throw line nailing 16 of 19. The game was just as physical as when they were at Alabama the first SEC game of the year (last time LSU lost an SEC game). The refs definitely were letting them play, with no LSU player receiving more than 2 fouls. LSU was able to get a lot of young players in the game, which will be advantageous during the stretch run of the season. I for one think LSU will crack the top 25 in both polls tomorrow for the first time in a couple of years. The Tigers have a tough schedule coming up with a game at Mississippi State on Wednesday, and the Bulldogs will be looking for revenge. I will have to find a place to watch it in Vegas, preferably a place with multiple T.V’s so I can catch some of the North Carolina/Duke game.

LSU Baseball Ranked #1 in Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll
The LSU Tiger Baseball Team is ranked number one in the preseason poll released on Monday by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The complete poll can be seen here. LSU edged out North Carolina by one point to claim the top spot. Rice, Georgia, and Stanford round out the top five.
LSU is lead by several projected early round picks in the 2009 MLB draft such as OF Jared Mitchell, OF Blake Dean, and SS D.J. LaMahieu. Also returning are standouts Micah Gibbs, Ryan Schimpf, Leon Landry, and Shawn Ochinko. In all, the Tigers have eight starters returning from a team made it all the way to the College World Series in Omaha last year.
After struggling through a tough 7-5 football season this year, fans have something to look forward to in the new year. The basketball team is 9-1, we currently have the #1 recruiting class in the nation, Brad Pevito is leaving – ending the dreaded co-defensive coordinator shit, and the baseball team is projected to be good. Things are looking up. Like Stevie Wonder says….Go Tigers!
