Choklahoma Strikes Again
Big game Bob does it again. Stoops and his Sooners fell to the SEC Florida Gators last night to drop their 5th BCS game in a row including 3 national championship appearances in a row. Florida joins our LSU Tigers as the only teams to have won the BCS Championship 2 times. This gives the SEC the last 3 championships and 5 0f 11 since the inception of the BCS. Any debate on the best conference?
I also think that this bowl season has illustrated why the college football world really needs a playoff. As the season ended, all the pundits had the Big 12 South as the greatest thing since sliced bread. How did they fair in the bowls you ask. 1-3 with the one win being a last second TD by Texas over a fairly weak Ohio State team that got throttled by USC (Big 10 was 1-6 in bowl games this year). My point is that even though it seemed “obvious” that the best teams were in the Big 12 with three 11-1 teams, perhaps we could have known for sure by playing it off. I still think Florida is the best team overall, but a playoff would settle things the right way, on the field.

Thoughts on the Bowl Games so far
[caption id="attachment_1007" align="aligncenter" width="419" caption="(Bowls. Some are big bowls. Some are shitty little red bowls.)"]

I’ve got a little down time, so I thought I’d give my thoughts on some of the bowl games that have already been played. I’ve been pleased with the games that I actually care about this year and really wish (though I know it will never happen) that they could eliminate about 10 bowl games. If you go .500, you dont deserve to play in a bowl game. I know that was nearly LSU this year, but hell, at 7-5 I’m not sure we deseved to go to a bowl game. Half the teams in D1 go to a bowl game. That’s total bullshit. The top 40 teams should go to 20 bowl games. We dont need bowl games in Boise, El Paso, Toronto, or Shreveport for that matter. The Houston Bowl….really? It’s on the freakin NFL network for Christ’s sake. And I wont even get started on the dumb ass names of some of these bowls. Anyway, hope you enjoy my random tidbits and I cant wait for Florida/Oklahoma.
Meineke Bowl – I couldnt help but think while watching this game that North Carolina isnt far off from being a pretty good football team. Sure, they ended up losing to West Virginia. But we’re talking about Butch Davis here. He’s a damn good coach and his recruiting class is currently in the top 10. I’ve got a feeling they’re about 2 years off from being a top 10-15 type team.

Tigers Remind GA Tech that the ACC Sucks – Jean Francois Going Pro – Russell Shepard is Awesome
Now that I’ve finally vomited and pissed out the massive amount alcohol that I consumed this New Year’s Eve, I can write a somewhat coherent post about the Chick Fil A Bowl. WOW! Ok, so while I did pick us to win the game, who would have thought….after the year we had….that we’d go out there and kick GA Tech square in the nuts? The Hat had the guys ready to go for this one. I was impressed. Me, LSUPoop, and our significant others got the drinks flowing about 2:30pm and we wandered over to the GA Dome area. We went to the fanfare thing and saw the band perform. I downed a couple $7 beers and listened to them rock the house. Still get goosebumps every time I hear those fools play. We then made our way over to the official bowl tailgate party which had some decent food and more overpriced drinks. We got our fat on and then went over to the stadium. We had pretty nice club level seats about the 10 yard line. We cheered, boozed, and I narrowly avoided a fight with another drunk fan of the GA Tech variety (if you’re out there jersey wearing guy, you’re still a bitch!). The LSU fans totally took over the Dome and though we were out numbered about 5 to 1, you could only hear LSU fans cheering. Everyone who made the trip, you rocked. After the game, we tried to hit up a bar, but it was at capacity, so we rang in the New Year at the hotel bar. It was super fun…or so they tell me.
My first sober thought this morning was “where in the fuck was that team all year?” I’m very happy we won and played so well, but am pretty pissed at how much we underacheived this year. I was also pretty pissed that Jordan Jefferson was kept on the bench until the season was already in the shitter (by our lofty standards). There’s nothing we can do about it now, but man, it just makes you wonder. At least we have something to look forward to next year.
According to ESPN , Ricky Jean Francois is going pro. I think it is a dumb ass decision as his injury riddled 18 tackles and 2 sacks in 2008 will probably land him somewhere in the middle rounds, where he could come back next year and have a good season and be a first rounder. However, I know folks need money…so good luck RJF.

Hey Guys,
Not much to say here. Its game day and we’re all about to go get hammered. I’ll be in the club level taking in the festivities, unless the tickets we got on Ebay are fake. After the jump, you’ll find our final picks of the season. We’re split on whether the Tigers can pull it off. I suppose we’ll see. Have a great New Year’s and GEAUX TIGERS!!!
