LSU Kicks Ass, Literally
So did you know LSU had a boxing group/squad/pride/gaggle/litter/whatever you call a boxing team? I didn’t, but now I do and feel smarter for it. And not only did we have a team, we won individual national championships with “Pee Wee” Moss in 1949 and Tad Thrash in 1950(kick ass boxing name). LSU will be honoring Mr. Moss this weekend by having him throw out the first pitch on Saturday against Florida.

Barkevious Mingo wins ‘Name of the Year’
Yep. It is a real contest. Name of the Year is a group that was founded in 1983 and every year they pick the best name. I guess once you’ve been in the contest, you can’t be again….. who knows.
Anyway, Barkevious Mingo the new LSU Tiger linebacker has won it. We knew the name was awesome when we first started hearing about him in the recruiting season. He will join the team this summer I believe. In this contest, he was up against names like Chew Kok…..really?!?, Atilla Bucko, Taco Vandervelde, Crystal Metheny, and Nutritious Love. I know, I can’t believe those are names either.
The names are arranged in a 64 name name-off like college basketball. Once it was down to two, Mingo was up against Iris Macadangdang. LOL! Over 10,000 people voted.

LSU is 10th Best WR School
Collegefootballnews.com has voted LSU as tied for the 10th best WR school in college football. Here is the story.
Everyone remembers where they were when Michael Clayton tipped the ball to Jack Hunt Devery Henderson in Lexington, KY November 9, 2002. And man, I can remember being in Tuscaloosa the day that Josh Reed and Rohan Davy went off and torched the Tide 35-21, setting team records in the process. Reed caught 19 passes for 293 yards and a TD. Davey had 528 yards passing. LSU’s wide receivers have always been solid as long as Jarrett Lee wasn’t throwing to them. More after the jump.
The WR’s listed are Josh Reed, Wendell Davis, Michael Clayton, Eric Martin, and Andy Hamilton. Hamilton is the only guy out of my age range, but apparently was pretty good, averaging 19.9 yards per catch.

The BCS is like Communism
Ok, look. I’ll be honest with you. BMOT50 made me drink on a week night last night and I feel like crap so I can’t really think of any clever/witty things to write for you today. I can actually feel my pulse in my forehead and I think I wet the bed last night so things aren’t too great in UDR land right now. So anyhoo, I found a little article stating that the BCS is like communism and my dynamite commentary on the subject is……yep. LSU #8 in Playboy’s Top 10 Party Schools
I would like to start this post off by stating that, yes, I do read the articles, I have shaken hands with Bigfoot, gone fishing with the Loch Ness Monster and many other myths of that nature. Playboy’s annual top ten party schools list has been released and our very own LSU has been ranked at number 8. Which is right between 6 and 9. Get it? Playboy…sexual innuendo…no?…whatever. You may be asking yourself, “I thought this was a sports blog?!?” Well, my good friend lsupoop told me that MILF hunting is now considered a sport in many places so I thought this post would work for our site and our placement on this list has a lot to do with tailgating during football season. What a Weekend!
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend and are as reluctantly back at work as I am. I spent my little break on the beach trying for the World Records in foot and thigh sunburn. How ya like that visual? All that aside, what a hell of a weekend we have coming up here in the Red Stick for LSU sports. The spring game, men’s tennis, baseball, track, softball – -you name it and it’s being played this weekend. So even all you ADD LSU fans can keep busy, if not, bring a ball of yarn or something to play with. The good folks with the LSU Athletic Department are going to reward you for your rabid sports following by offering prizes for attending four or more events this weekend. Here’s how it works: print out your Super Tiger Fan Card (we like to say super awesome fierce Tiger Fan Card here at LSUtopia), bring it to the events you attend and get the people at the Fan Zone to give you a little sticker saying you were actually there. After you have attended four events for the weekend you automatically get a T-shirt (which I bet will have a pic of that mega-badass super tiger from the pic above. LSU Baseball Back at #1
The Tigers are back on top of the college baseball world as voted by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. All 3 polls have LSU as the #1 team in the country after winning 2 of 3 at Alabama last weekend. The USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll has the Tigers at #3
LSU began the season at #1 in some polls, but lost the ranking on March 2nd. It feels good to be back at the top. However, LSU (26-9, 10-5) trails Arkansas by 1/2 game in the SEC West and Georgia (still USA Today/ ESPN’s #1) by a full game in the overall SEC standings. This weekend, LSU will play host to Tennessee and will try to gain some ground on UGA and Arkansas.
In other news, Blake Dean was honored with the SEC Player of the Week. Dean went 6 for 12 with one double, two homers, 10 RBI’s, and 2 runs scored in the weekend series with Bama. Over the week, he hit .412. Dean became the sixth LSU Tiger to earn either SEC Player or Pitcher of the week this season. Congratulations!!

This Weekend in LSU Sports and a Holiday Update
Well, LSU’s campus will be pretty quiet this weekend. Not only is it still Spring Break, but the only game in town is Men’s Tennis who take on Ole Miss today and Miss. State on Sunday. Baseball is in Tuscaloosa, AL this weekend, Softball is in Fayetteville, AR, Track and Field is in Tempe, AZ, and Women’s Tennis is in Starkville.
You can catch Saturday’s and Sundays’ Baseball games on Cox Sports TV if you are in the area. If not, find them on the LSU Sports Network on your audio boxes or log into the Geaux Zone at lsusports.net.
We here at LSUtopia want to wish all of our readers and even the ones that haven’t found us yet, a safe and happy Easter or Passover weekend….which ever fits you the best. Spend time with the family, throw a football/baseball, watch the golf, lay around on the beach, eat well, etc. We don’t care what you do, but whatever it is, enjoy it.
